It’s a common occurrence once you accelerate and let completely off the throttle. Some gauges will display up to 200mpg, momentarily. This is one of the tricks to getting better fuel economy … inertia is your friend … :)

  • KillSwitch2170 says:

wtf why did it say 99mpg :S

just bought an 09, its the V6, but if you are thinking the g6 is some great sports car….its not. The car has great options for the price. so far i have liked it. but like i said its not amazingly fast, but it does hold its own.

I’ve owned a G6 since 2005. She has almost 98.000 k. I haven’t had a single “major” problem with it. She rides like a tank, and gets terrible gas milage….But that’s about it.

  • kingoflandova says:

it took about 7 sec to get to 60

hey gm makes good cars but i gotta say im not impressed with pontiac there cars are all half assed my freinds g6 is and so is my ggrand am but my old 94 chevy 1500 with 260k miles still runs like a charm and the interior hasent fallen apart but usually ford makes the better interior dodge is ok

  • dragonsyth10 says:

my freinds has a v6 and is pretty damn quick but still has the cheap ass interior that falls apart witch is typical for pontiac and it doesent handle too well when ur getting on the gas alot and my grand am has the same problem but its pretty nice

Thanks a lot guys, this was a really solid review. I am looking at a new G6, and test drove one last night. Just looking at more info on it today. Thanks again.

ill give u that…but they consistently put out cars that are unfinished….leaving japanese companys to sweep up there profits time and time again..and it finally caught up.

  • chrisiztheman1618 says:

not all gm cars are bad….

  • coandcaiv says:

this car sucks….economy car interior look at feel….exterior nothing to write home about…i see these cars everywhere..and cant think of a single reason not to buy something else besides this GM half ass’d car…why does GM half ass all there cars?…

I rented a 2009 Pontiac G6 while my Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 litre was in the body shop. I would not recommend the G6 to my worst enemy. It had the four cylinder 2.4 litre and the gas mileage was horrendous. Also the guages were to small to read. the only thing I liked were the outside door handles and the tilted headrests. My Grand Prix (2006) is a far superior car. Look for a used one up to 2008 with low miles and you will not be disappointed.

I made several trips to 2 dealerships. The only problem that was somewhat “fixed” was the heat shield, but the dealership sheared a hanger bolt and drilled a self tapping screw into the underbody in its place. Now, I get occasional heat shield vibrations and will probably have a rust problem. So far, all other problems have been considered “normal” by GM dealerships. I have been working with GM customer support (of little help) and am considering the lemon law…

Sadly, this is my last GM.

After buying a 2008 G6 GT (with the 3.5 L V6) I would not recommend this car. This is my 5th GM, 4th Pontiac. Seems the designers wanted to build a nice car, but fell short. By 18k miles the car:
    -Front suspension clunks
    -Steering clunks
    -Vibrates at highway speed
    -Idles rough
-Heater smells of coolant (core leak?)
-Transmission sometimes fails to shift (rare)
-Tire pressure monitor cannot be set manually
    -Heat shields resonate
    -Brake pedal binds slightly
    -Steering column makes rubbing sound

was considering one of these as a rental car on a trip to the states.. looks like a reasonable car.

i thought about the g8, but a little out of my range and know its from australia, and built to have fun with like they do with it down there :) then i was thinking of the g6 and then came i seen the mazda 6 wow that car is really fun to drive and takes bumps good so i might consider the mazda, if you haven’t test drove one yet i recommed it just to try it!

  • tmaq97 says:

Yeah you would think they would set rules for dealers, its a legal scam to pray on innocent ppl you should ask them if they are catholics cause if they are like i know some here that work in that field, you should ask them how can you live knowing that your screwing with ppl! money is root of all evil,

  • mrgrouchyguy says:

Ya, I spent 14 yrs in auto. So when I went to the dealership they told me that was normal. Can you beleive that. How dumb do they think I am. So they take it for the day. Again, when I come to pick it up they find nothing. ALL DEALERS are CROOKS. I bought the extended war. Now they get to charge me $100 everytime I have a complaint. But I still love the roomyness & mpg & get complements all the time which makes it harder to want to get rid of. Pont. did a great job with the exterier styling.

  • tmaq97 says:

maybe you know this already but those are signs of a bad heater core. if under warranty no worries but no warranty that is a 750 - 1000 dollar worry depending on where you go to.

  • mrgrouchyguy says:

I love the comments I get from other drivers. Bought some pimpin 18″ wheels & magna flow exhaust, tinted out the windows. But the knock when it’s cold outside from the front end, & after shutting it off for 5min. in the winter then restarting it causes my winshield to fog with an antifreeze like smog inside is almost too much. I love my car. But. I think I see a G8 in my future somewhere instead. That will be a nice step up. Hopefully no knocks & fogging. lol

  • coasterfreak100 says:

I’m starting to notice a knock on my 04 Maxx, but this car has been the best investment I had made. Great room, great M.P.G.

  • darkman699 says:

I just love the styling of the G6 and the G5 to. Go Pontiac!

  • mpgomatic says:

Sorry to hear about the problems. Our review car didn’t exhibit the knock or fogging in our week long test. We’ve run into fogging on a number of cars; turning on the A/C with the defroster usually clears things up. The wind noise is a common problem among many modern cars and it drives us crazy … blame it on aerodynamics?

  • mrgrouchyguy says:

Funny how it’s never mentioned, how you can’t drive down the road with the rear windows down due to very severe wind noise that is VERY hard on your ears. Or that the fact that these cars come with a knock in the front end that the dealers are never able to find & correct. Or that the fact that the front wind sheild fogs up on you from the inside, that the dealers try to pass off as normal. THIS CAR IS A PIEACE OF SHIT & WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE. I like GM, but am so very tired of their CRAP.

  • BJC89UF says:

okay i don’t feel so bad now i paid 18,800 for mine brand new in 07, never seen a 2.4 with that leather wheel and traction control…must all be a part of that new sport package.
