Does anyone own a new Pontiac GTO. If so how do you like it, does the engine run strong. What are the pros and cons. I am thinking about getting one.

There is no such thing! 2006 was the last year for the two door Holden Manaro shipped to the USA as a GTO. My 2006 six speed manual with 18″ tires and less than 16,000 miles. I have cold air intake K&N, GMMripshifter, Hodgekiss Sway bars, SLP lould mouth exhaust and SLP’s Predatior Power programer. I installed more aggressive Bridgstone RE-010R tires. Good for about 13.7 mpg in town average speed 28 miles an hour and over 25mpg on the highway at just under 70 mph. Torque this car could pull down trees! Power you can select any three gears during normal driving. Top speed limiter is gone with the programmer and I haven’t seen the top speed yet just over 150 so far actual speed. Great brakes for a stock car very good seats hold you in on corners. I think a four speed automatic in this car would be a mistake gas milage would suffer. Come on Join the GTO crowd! Just a word of warning these cars are fast and powerful. Take a performance driving school learn your limits and the cars handling before exercising your right foot in traffic with traction control turned off.
Hey John Paul, I think he meant new as in the ‘04-’06, not the current model year.
I have the ‘05 in Midnight Blue Metallic and Sport Appearance Package (See my avatar?), and I absolutely LOVE the car. I bought it used with about 14,000 miles on it about a year ago, and now it has 28,000. Not a single problem with it, except for rear tire wear (must be an allignment issue, don’t you think?)
It is a beast on the street, and a real sleeper. Not everyone is aware of the car’s capabilities, and that’s another thing I love about it. Every once in a while some ricer will see the wing and mess with me a little bit, and I’m yet to meet one that can take mine, and mine is bone stock.
And then sometimes - not very often - you get some teenager who knows what he is seeing and just drools. It’s nice to have a Pontiac that does that again! I was around last time that happened, and it was a long time ago…
Visit LS1GTO.com and chat with some owners about what to look out for when shopping for a GTO. AS a high performance car, any available unit out there might have been hammered pretty hard. It’s OK, the car can take the abuse - but you want a good one.
Good luck!
The new Holden Monaro GTO made by GM from 2004-2006 is a real arrrrsss kicker in speed, torque and power…..as far as looks it is only a shell of the former GTOs that were so beautiful….you want a beautiful GTO get a 65-67 model…those were among the most beautiful GTOs ever….also the 69-71 models were very nice too……..the new ones though are far more powerful than the ones from the 60s and 70s……today you have more power, the older models much better looks.
My buddy has an ‘05 with the 6.0 and an auto trans. It’s QUICK and really a nice car. It’s roomy inside, even the back seat. I think it kinda resembles the ‘71-’72 GTO, too, but in a modern, watered-down interpretation.
If you want to launch it like a drag car, I’ve heard they break easily if you increase the HP and the traction. If you just want a good street performance car, don’t worry about it.
Another con, there’s an aluminum panel in the trunk where they had to relocate the fuel tank to make it legal for the U.S. It cuts down on trunk space a bit. If you get a flat tire, the wheel won’t fit in the compartment where the spare came from and won’t fit in the trunk because of that aluminum panel.
