You’re talking an improbable if not impossible conversion. Even if you could find someone who’d agree to undertake the challenge it would cost you more than a new one. Besides there are EPA qualifications at stake on any car today when you start swapping engines. Even if you managed it you might wind up with a vehicle which was impossible to get past smog and safety inspections.
Just get the entire GTO. Grand Ams were never set up for rear drive. While it could be done with enough money what would you have after $20,000 spent. Small car brakes big car horsepower and grand am body work.
i cant see how an ls1 engine would fit since the other engine was a side mount i can see how you could get a motor mount to fit.or room to run a driveshaft down the middle without a flat floor board.. even if you could you would have to get a rearend that would be compatable with that car to attach the drive shaft to. and even at that a rearend that the ls1 wouldnt rip the rear end out..
If youve got a wrecked 04 gto engine find a rear wheeled gm car you could put it in,,
it is possible but you would need a whole mess of parts, and time. and alot more money than if you bought a nother car, cause you would need to chop almost half of that car out to redo tha supension, drive train, cut floor boards, make brases not impossible but very un likely if you plan to do it yourself. welding, great understanding of what it is u plan to do. dont worrie i thought of it in a 89 cavalier. didnt happen
Go out and buy a 2002 Pontiac Trans Am or a 2004 Pontiac GTO. It will be cheaper and run better in the long run,
Don’t bother. It’s cheaper to buy a GTO.
Drop the pontiac and get a good car..
well you will need to change engine mounts, a prop shaft, bell housing, gearbox, rear axle - tell you what don’t bother!
